Good Morning Angels raises R2.7m to help child burn victims
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
Our Jacaranda FM Good Morning Angels community has done it again – raising R2.7 million to help child burn survivors heal!

We marked Youth Day with a special Good Morning Angels broadcast from Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital in aid of the Avela Foundation yesterday.
The Avela Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping children with burn injuries on their journey to physical and psychological recovery.
They make use of a specialised laser machine, operated by trained plastic surgeons, to heal scarring in children, free of charge.

However, in November last year, their laser machine at Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital broke down and needed to be replaced at a cost of R1.4 million.
We set out to raise enough for a new laser machine, and thanks to the generosity of our listeners and their companies, we reached that target just before 8 am, with more donations continuing to come in!
We were told by the laser machine supplier that they would discount a second machine to R1.3 million, so that became the next target.
By the end of Breakfast with Martin Bester at 9 am, we had raised a total of R2.52 million – just R180,000 shy of the second machine.
This morning, we can confirm that two more donations came in later in the day:
- QI Logistics: R30,000
- Silverton Manufacturing: R150,000
That brings the total raised for two brand-new laser machines for the Avela Foundation to R2,700,000!

This gives Avela the capacity to assist 40 children a month in healing from the scars and impaired mobility left by traumatic and painful burns.
Thank you to everyone who supported and donated big and small!
We would like to give a special shout-out to Lotto Star for donating R697,000 to help us reach our first target with an hour to spare, and for inspiring us all to go above and beyond to reach the target for a second laser machine!
Thanks to The Machi Filotimo Cancer Project's generous donation, the team also got to distribute toys to the children at the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital.
@jacabreakfast What an amazing morning at the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital! We raised over R2 million to purchase two laser machines to assist children with burn wounds, thanks to our wonderful donors. To spread some extra cheer, we also handed out toys to the little ones at the hospital - all thanks to The Machi Filotimo Cancer Project! #GoodMorningAngels #BreakfastWithMartinBester #YouthDay #YouthDay2024 #FYP #Charity #BurnVictims @Martin Bester @Philicity Reeken @xolantshinga ♬ original sound - Breakfast with Martin Bester
