Making dreams come true for kids fighting for their lives

It's been 36 years since the first Reach for a Dream "dreamer" experienced the power of a dream come true, providing a break from painful and scary treatment and a reason to keep hoping for a brighter tomorrow.
Every day, Reach for a Dream brings more than six dreams to life for children fighting illnesses such as cancer, heart conditions, and organ failure — that’s more than two thousand dreams a year!

One of these dreamers is Dr. Nkuli Boikhutso.
She was a 14-year-old girl from Soweto, fighting cancer, when her dream to visit her aunt in the USA was made possible by Reach for a Dream.
Today, she is the CEO of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital.
"When you are fighting a life-threatening illness, your mortality is brought into question. I wanted experiences rather than things that can break and get old."
Dr. Boikhutso says the kindness shown to her by Reach for a Dream, from people she didn't even know, changed her perspective on life and humanity forever.

Not all dreams are the same — some children would like to meet a hero, bake a cake, sing a song, or spend a day having fun with family and friends — but every dream is designed to show the power of hope and love. One dreamer’s parent said:
"While my son was looking forward to his dream day, he was focused on living… and after the dream, he believed in the future again."
