Special care and a brand-new wheelchair for a special young boy

15-year-old Wian le Roux cannot talk, stand, or walk. Thanks to Good Morning Angels and Valterra Platinum's Bushveld Classic Golf Day, he will receive much-needed help as well as a new wheelchair.

Wian was born with a chromosome defect. He cannot talk, stand, or walk. His mental ability is also impaired due to his condition. However, he recognises familiar voices and finds comfort in routine.

Wian's grandmother has been his primary caregiver while his mother, Michelle, works.

Over the years, the family has done their best to ensure that Wian is comfortable, happy, and stimulated. However, this has become increasingly difficult as he grows older and heavier.

Wian now requires specialised therapies and has become too heavy for his grandmother and mother to carry and move around.

Additionally, he has outgrown his current wheelchair and urgently needs a new, specialised one.

A care facility has been identified that can provide Wian with the therapy, support, and specialised care he needs. However, the upfront cost for the first three months is over R66,000.

Michelle, Wian’s mother, cannot afford this amount, and her medical aid does not cover it. She has managed to save some money and, with help from family, will be able to cover the ongoing monthly costs—if they can find funding to cover the initial three months.

SPONSORING: The annual Bushveld Classic Golf Day, hosted by Valterra Platinum, raises funds to improve the lives of people in need. This year, they have generously offered to assist Michelle by sponsoring the R28,000 needed for Wian’s new wheelchair.

In addition, they will cover the cost of the first three months at the care facility, plus a little extra to help Wian get settled. This brings the total sponsorship from the Bushveld Classic Golf Day and all its supporters to R100,000, enabling Wian and his family to access the essential care and support he needs.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am unsure whether you are still involved in community upliftment projects, but I have seen your company mentioned in such contexts before. I am writing to ask if you would consider an individual sponsorship or donation for a very special child with disabilities.

Wian le Roux, now 15-years-old, was born with a chromosome defect. He cannot talk, stand, or walk, and his mental abilities are also impaired. He does, however, recognise familiar voices and feels comfort in routine.

Wian previously had a wheelchair specially manufactured by a company in Johannesburg, which he used for several years. However, this chair has become too small for his growing body, and he urgently needs a new one to help him sit upright, take walks outside, and feel secure in his interactions with the world.

The cost of a new wheelchair is estimated at R28,000.

Wian has been lovingly cared for by his family—especially his grandmother—but she is getting older and can no longer lift him on her own. Although care workers have been involved in his at-home care, Wian now needs more specialised equipment and therapy that only a professional care facility can provide. The cost of this facility is R16,600 per month for the first three years, after which a grant may reduce the cost to R14,600 per month.

We are reaching out to ask if there are any sponsorship or donation opportunities available. If so, please consider assisting us.

I have attached some photographs of Wian, including a recent one taken in his wheelchair.

Kind regards,
Michelle le Roux
