BACKGROUND: Kagiso Media, owners of Jacaranda FM and East Coast Radio have put together the KM Hunger Relief Fund to assist communities in need during the drawn-out Covid-19 lockdown in South Africa. The most basic need remains food. Over the next two weeks, Jacaranda FM will give a platform to four organizations per day, who actively work within afflicted communities to feed the thousands of families who currently cannot earn a living. We want to know who these community Angels are and how our listener community can assist them. Jacaranda FM will also equally distribute R500 000,00 from the Kagiso Media Hunger Relief Fund to these organizations in the form of AngelRands.

We will publish the details of each organization on jacarandafm.com so you can contact them and donate directly to assist the essential work they do.

Ikitseng is requesting assistance with food parcels to feed the most vulnerable communities in Spruit, Centurion. This will primarily go towards the Waste Reclaimers, who are from Spruit which is an informal settlement in Centurion. The waste reclaimers earn a living by collecting food and recyclables. Most of the families, have to leave home at 04:00 in the morning, with children on their backs to search for food and recyclables in the waste bins across Centurion. Currently, Ikitseng is giving food parcels to several (50) of the reclaimers on a Friday in Heuweloord, as well as provide soup on some Fridays. Ikitseng is a non-profit organisation registered with the Department of Social Development almost nine years ago. The organization serves poor communities in Temba, Hammanskraal, Atteridgeville, Mamelodi and Spruit in Centurion.
