Need a quick pick-me-up on a cold winter's day?

Food blogger Landi Govender's latest recipe couldn't come at a better time. We are in the thick of winter and desperately need something rich and cosy to keep us warm.

And we don't mean a handsome billionaire

Govender teamed up with Le Creuset South Africa to create the most delicious French hot chocolate

"Thick, velvety and utterly indulgent – just a sip of this will transport you to a café in France! Once you’ve tasted this homemade hot chocolate, store-bought versions will never compare."

In that case, here's how to make it.

Ingredients

1 cup (250ml) full cream milk
½ cup (125ml) fresh cream
100g dark chocolate (60–70%), finely chopped
1 tsp sugar (optional, adjust to taste)
Whipped cream, to serve
Grated dark chocolate, for garnish

Method

  • Place a small saucepan over medium heat.

  • Add the milk and cream and heat until it begins to steam.

  • Don’t allow it to reach a boil.

  • Lower the heat once the mixture is steaming, then add the chopped chocolate.

  • Whisk slowly until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is thick and glossy.

  • Add sugar if desired.

  • Pour the hot chocolate into two cups. Top with whipped cream and a generous dusting of grated chocolate. Enjoy hot.
