Kelly Clarkson "devastated" after postponing Vegas show
The singer cancelled the opening night of her Las Vegas residency just hours before the show was supposed to start.
Kelly Clarkson's Las Vegas residency is off to a shaky start.
The 'Since You've Been Gone' hitmaker's 'Studio Sessions' residency was set to begin at Caesars Palace's The Colosseum on Friday, July 4.
However, Clarkson cancelled the opening night just a few hours before her performance and also cancelled Saturday's performance.
"We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans. I am beyond grateful that you always show up for me, and I am devastated to have to postpone tonight and tomorrow’s opening at Caesars," she wrote in a statement.
Clarkson has postponed the shows to Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12. The 18-show residency will end in November.
"The prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice. I want the shows to be perfect for y’all and I need to protect myself from doing serious damage so I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve."
The 43-year-old says her performance will be worth the wait.
"The show is truly incredible. The musicians and singers are outstanding, and I want us all to start out strong. I can’t wait to be back next weekend and show y’all what we’ve been working on."
Clarkson is not the first star to push back the start of her Vegas residency.
A tearful Adele postponed her 'Weekend With Adele' residency in January 2022.
She announced the postponement just 24 hours before her residency was meant to start.
"I'm so sorry, but my show ain't ready. Half my team have COVID-19 and it's been impossible to finish the show. I can't give you what I have right now and I'm gutted," she said in a video.
Adele's residency officially began several months later. It was a major success with stars such as Celine Dion attending.
"When Adele cancelled, we still had an amazing time. Respect for taking care of yourself," one of Clarkson's fans commented.
Jennifer Lopez will head to Las Vegas later this year for her 'Up All Night' residency.
Her show is also taking place at The Colosseum.
