Our Voices: Tlokwe

As part of the Our Voices series in the run-up to the Local Government Election on Wednesday, Pieter van der Merwe visited Tlokwe, North West to speak to the residents.

Tlokwe Local Municipality, a local municipality in Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, has made headlines after several by-elections were declared invalid after complications over voters' addresses.
The Constitutional Court ruled that voters' addresses needed to be verified.
The IEC got to work to update the voters' roll.
In the future, the Tlokwe ruling will determine what all voters' rolls will look like.
But for now, Tlokwe is the only municipality where your vote won't count if your address isn't registered.
While almost 90 percent of Tlokwe voters have managed to verify their addresses in time, it's the response from the remaining voters - who will be turned away tomorrow - that is likely to determine the success of this test case.
