The aftermath of Tembisa tornado
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
On Tuesday night emergency workers worked to clean the rubble at the Phumlani mall in Tembisa to ensure that no one else were trapped after a tornado ravaged the area.
The roof sheeting laid twisted several meters away from the mall and in some instances seemed draped over power cables.
Several cars were damaged and trucks were turned on their sides.
The Ekurhuleni Metro established a joint operations centre to support those who were affected by the phenomenon.
Ekurhuleni Metro's Themba Gadebe said that more than 200 houses were damaged.
"We have set up a number so that those affected can call us for assistance. The number is 011 458 0911," Gadebe told Jacaranda FM News.
