Agreement in fuel strike could be reached soon
The strike in the petroleum chemical sector might be coming to an end soon.
A new wage offer will be tabled this afternoon that could bring an end to the three week long strike.
The action has led to some fuel pumps running dry in especially Gauteng.
The Chemical Energy Paper Printing Wood and Allied Workers Union's (Ceppwawu) spokesperson, Clement Chitja, says they are hopeful that the CCMA would succeed in breaking the deadlock.
"Yesterday the CCMA commissioner made a commissioner's proposal to which parties will be responding this afternoon and that will likely result in an agreement," he said.
Chitja says they've made peace with the fact that their members might not get their demand of a 9 percent wage increase.
"We are happy that we are able to make some gains in other respects, even if the 9 percent might not be reached."
