Dagga worth R1 million seized in the Eastern Cape

The organised crime wing of the directorate for priority crime investigation (Hawks) and the East London tactical response team (TRT) on Sunday seized 711kg of dagga in Chalumna village, East London, the Hawks in the Eastern Cape said.

"The dagga, which has an estimated street value of R1 million, was found at 5am packed in a house where there were no inhabitants at that particular moment," Captain Anelisa Feni said.

Officers received information on Thursday that dagga was going to be transported by donkey from Lesotho to South Africa. Once the donkeys crossed the border, the dagga destined for East London and Port Elizabeth was loaded into vehicles.

Information further revealed that the dagga reached East London on Saturday morning. No arrests had yet been made and the investigation was continuing, Feni said.
