Eastern Cape police say search and rescue teams are already trying to retrieve the bodies of four people who were killed when a helicopter crashed late yesterday near Lusikisiki.
Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Sibongile Soci, says they're also hoping that the SA Defence Force would assist.
She says they received information late yesterday that a chopper had gone down.
"Last night at about 18:00 we received reports that the helicopter crashed in the Port St. Johns area but we couldn't confirm how many people were on board," she said.
Soci could not provide further details of the chopper or the route it was flying.
"Eyewitnesses said there were four people on board and that they could see four bodies at the bottom of the cliff where the helicopter crashed.
However, according to reports the Robinson44 was flying from Margate to the South Coast of KZN when it went down with four occupants on board.
Soci added that they will retrieve the bodies and wreckage later today.
