Hundreds of families are being temporarily relocated after a fire ripped through the Plastic View informal settlement, east of Pretoria.
At least 300 shacks were burned to cinders in the blaze and at least five killed.
Gauteng premier David Makhura visited the informal settlement to outline the assistance government and NGOs will provide to ensure those displaced have a place to sleep tonight.
