Seven students from the University of Witwatersrand (Wits) were among the nine people killed when a mini bus taxi crashed into an overturned truck trailer on the N1 between Mokgopane and Mookgopong on Sunday evening.

The truck was waiting for assistance when the taxi crashed into the trailer and burst into flames.
"Seven people were burned beyond recognition while two died outside the taxi. Six people were left critically injured" Mootane said.
Wits spokesperson Shirona Patel said a team has been dispatched to Limpopo to gather more information and support the families of the deceased.
"We learned this morning from another Wits student who was driving behind the mini bus taxi when the accident happened. We have sent a team to gather more information and support the families of the deceased" Patel said.
The Wits ZCC Student Society said it is traumatised by the accident and would not comment at this stage.
