5 Schuster movies removed by Showmax due to racial content
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Video streaming service Showmax has permanently removed five Leon Schuster movies from its platform due to “negative racial stereotyping and prominent elements of blackface”.

Schuster, whose comedic career spans decades, has been known to make use of blackface as well as derogatory racial stereotypes in his films.

Showmax decided to review the titles it has on offer amid growing calls for companies to dismantle institutionalised racism and practices.
In a statement released on Friday, Showmax said the only Schuster movie that will remain available for viewing is ‘Frank & Fearless’.
“We have completed an initial review of the content on Showmax. Seven titles (in total) have been removed due to negative racial stereotyping and prominent elements of blackface.
“Showmax is an entertainment service and we don’t endorse the views or actions that take place in the shows and movies on our platform.”
