Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are 'Wicked: For Good'
Elphaba and Glinda are back for part 2 of the blockbuster musical fantasy film.
Universal Pictures has released the trailer for 'Wicked: For Good' starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
Elphaba Thropp, played by Erivo, returns after disappearing in the first movie after making a shocking discovery about The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum).
Glinda Upland, played by Grande, is as fabulous and popular as ever. But will she risk it all to stand by her friend?
"Elphaba, now demonised as The Wicked Witch of the West, lives in exile, hidden within the Ozian forest while continuing her fight for the freedom of Oz’s silenced Animals and desperately trying to expose the truth she knows about The Wizard," a synopsis of the film reads.
Life is going swimmingly for Glinda, who is set to marry Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey).
"Glinda, meanwhile, has become the glamorous symbol of Goodness for all of Oz, living at the palace in Emerald City and reveling in the perks of fame and popularity. Under the instruction of Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh), Glinda is deployed to serve as an effervescent comfort to Oz, reassuring the masses that all is well under the rule of The Wizard."
The trailer shows an angry mob hunting down Elphaba.
"Elphana, they're coming for you," Glinda says ominously.
The first 'Wicked' film, which is based on the Broadway musical of the same name, was a box office success.
It earned more than $ 700 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing stage musical adaptation.
Grande and Erivo were nominated for Oscars for their outstanding performances, and fans expect nothing but the best from part two.
"As soon as Ariana started singing 'For Good', the tears started pouring!" one YouTube user said about the trailer.
Is Taylor Swift in 'Wicked 2'?
Meanwhile, the internet is buzzing with news of Taylor Swift's possible appearance in 'Wicked 2' after pictures of her dressed as Dorothy went viral.
"Omggggg this will be so cute (if true)," an X user wrote.
However, the picture in question is AI-generated, and Swift will not appear in the sequel.
There is no Swift, but viewers can expect to see a lot more of Dorothy's character, though director Jon M. Chu has been mum on just how much screentime she will have.
Dorothy is a protagonist in several L. Frank Baum's 'Oz' novels, including the 1900 classic 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz'.
"Well, we definitely did cast Dorothy. You see her in some of our teasers. How much do you see of Dorothy? I’m going to leave people— I can’t confirm or deny how much you see of her," he told CinemaBlend.
"I will say that I do think it’s important for whoever Dorothy is to you, to try to respect that as much as possible. But does The Wizard of Oz and our movie intersect in movie two more than ever? 100%."
