Chappell Roan has officially released her song, 'The Subway', as a single.

The 'Pink Pony Club' singer sang the song at the Governors Ball Music Festival in June last year.

Clips of her singing 'The Subway' have also been shared numerous times on social media in the past, with fans begging her to release it.

Their wish is her command. The single was released on Thursday, July 31.

"I’m very proud of this song and what a journey she has been on," Roan wrote on Instagram.

"I first played it at Gov Ball when I was painted green as Lady Liberty, and in the past have played new songs live to feel them out. Obviously, not knowing this really chaotic year would follow the performance, it didn’t really leave me the time to build the world the song deserved."

One year later, the song has finally been released into the music universe.

"I def ripped my hair out trying to figure out the puzzle of how this song should feel musically and visually and emotionally. Luckily there are some to spare. Thank you for sticking it out for a whole year. It was worth it to make sure everything was absolutely right," she said.

Roan co-wrote the song with Daniel Nigro, who also produced it. The producer and songwriter also took to Instagram to celebrate the single's release.

"There is so much to say about the journey of this song that I could probably do a two-hour lecture on it (and maybe one day I will)," he joked.

"The Subway was the first song we wrote after finishing the 'Rise and Fall' during the summer of ‘23.... when it came time to deciding on the first single to release after the album," Nigro continued.

"It was between this and 'Good Luck, Babe'; however, the production of GLB was much further along, so we put 'The Subway' off to the side for a while."

Roan's Governors Ball Music Festival performance changed everything.

"It never occurred to me at the time how many people would fall in love with that version and make covers and share it. I even had family members that I didn’t even know were fans of Chappell texting me … begging for 'The Subway'.

"It was really beautiful to see how many people connected with the song, but also started to freak us out a bit because… well… we weren’t done with it! We were still trying to figure out how it felt on record," Nigro says.

Roan's fans love the version that has been released as an official single.

"The live version feels like she's breaking down sobbing, and the studio version feels like she's crying quietly in her room," one wrote on YouTube

"I honestly really like this new rendition of the outro! In the live version, it feels like she's bearing her soul to the audience, singing the ending more softly as she knows her voice is being heard. 'Like shes finally gotten that off her chest and can now sing more calmly.

"But in this one, the yelling as the instrumentals drop just makes it sound so much lonelier in a way? Like youre shouting for her to come back, but all you're left with is silence," another YouTuber commented.

Roan will release the track's official music video on Friday, August 1.
