Mariah Carey set to receive 2025 MTV Video Vanguard Award
Updated | By Music Reporter
Mariah Carey will perform at the MTV VMAs for the first time in two decades.

Music icon Mariah Carey will receive her first Moonman at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).
Organisers named the 56-year-old as this year's Video Vanguard Award recipient. The prestigious award honours musicians who have helped shape pop culture with their music and videos.
According to Paramount, Carey will "perform a show-stopping, career-spanning medley of her biggest hits".
The singer-songwriter has 19 Billboard Hot 100 #1 songs under her belt, which is the highest for a female solo artist.
Her hits include 'Dreamlover', 'Hero', 'Fantasy', 'One Sweet Day', 'Honey', Heartbreaker' and 'Always Be My Baby'.
The Beatles were the first artists to receive the Video Vanguard Award in 1984. The English band won alongside David Bowie.
The award was renamed to the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award in the '90s.
Carey will join other Vanguard winners including Madonna, Janet Jackson, Katy Perry, Bon Jovi, Guns 'N Roses, LL Cool J, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, P!nk and Beyoncé.
The singer's fans are looking forward to seeing her take to the MTV VMAs stage for the first time in 20 years.
"Mariah’s first VMA being the Vanguard is the most Mariah thing ever," one wrote.
A second person said, "Now that's an artist that actually deserves the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award! Congrats Mariah!"
Some of the artists performing at this year's ceremony include Alex Warren, Sabrina Carpenter and J Balvin.
South African singer Tyla is nominated for 'Best Afrobeats'. Her music video for 'Push 2 Start' will also face off against Lady Gaga and Kendrick Lamar in the 'Best Choreography'.
Vote for Tyla and artists in other categories on the official MTV VMAs website.
The 2025 ceremony will be held on Sunday, September 7.
