Rihanna's late father, Ronald Fenty, inspired her parenting style.

The 'Diamonds' hitmaker opened up about how her childhood affects how she raises her children, RZA and Riot, while attending the 'Smurfs' movie premiere in Los Angeles.

Rihanna walked the red carpet with her sons.

“I’ve always dreamed of what type of grandfather he would be to them, because of the favourite parts of my dad," she told Entertainment Tonight (ET).

“It prepared me for having two boys, really. The adventurous side of me, the outside side of me, the daredevil. It's how I want to raise them, and I want them to be outside and be in nature. No tablet babies.”

Rihanna's father passed away in May at the age of 70.

TMZ reported that he "died from cancer, pneumonia and other serious illnesses".

Rihanna says the most fun part of her life was her childhood. "Running around outside barefoot, free. You don't get to do that anymore.”

The Barbados star and her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, are expecting their third child together. The singer knows the baby's gender but is keeping it a secret until his/her arrival.

Rihanna says she can't wait for her children to see her new movie. She voices 'Smurfette'.

"That's going to be my favourite part, when they recognise that it's my voice... I can't wait to see what that reaction is going to be like."

'Smurfs' debuts in cinemas on Friday, July 19.

The voice cast also includes James Corden, John Goodman, Nick Offerman, Sandra Oh, Jimmy Kimmel, Kurt Russell, and Octavia Spencer.
