The 12 people arrested in connection with the murder of a Hawks officer appeared briefly before the Randburg Magistrates Court on Monday.

Lieutenant-General Mathipa was murdered in August 2023 when gunmen opened fire on his vehicle along the N1, near the Hammanskraal toll plaza.
Mathipa was investigating a high-profile case involving members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).
All of the accused are members of the SANDF, two of whom were arrested on Sunday at the OR Tambo International Airport and Centurion, respectively.
The other 10 were arraigned on Monday morning.
At the time of his death, Mathipa was probing the 2022 abduction of an alleged ISIS leader from the Mall of Africa in Midrand.
“Lieutenant Colonel Mathipa, who was attached to the Hawks’ Crimes Against the State section within the Serious Organised Crime Investigation in Gauteng, was on duty investigating at the time of his death. The suspects are also linked to a case of kidnapping of two male foreign nationals at a mall in Midrand on 29 December 2022,” said Hawks spokesperson Christopher Singo.
The accused face charges of kidnapping and murder.
