17 in court for City Power cable theft, vandalism
Updated | By Jacaranda FM news
Seventeen suspects appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges related to cable theft and vandalism.

The suspects were arrested over the weekend.
Nine of the suspects are security guards who are contracted with City Power.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the matter has been postponed to next Monday for a bail application.
"The intelligence operation, led by the SAPS, saw up to nine City Power security officers getting arrested alongside the remainder of the accused.
"During the operation, three scrap metal dealers were raided, and the bundles of cables belonging to City Power were confiscated.
“We are pleased with this development because it reflects our commitment to combatting crime and vandalism, which has so far cost Joburg's power utility over R160 million since the beginning of the year.”
