Two police officers among 4 suspects arrested for blue light

Gauteng law enforcement agencies said they have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against blue light robberies, with the arrest of four suspects, including two police officers.

The arrests were made on Thursday through a coordinated operation led by the Gauteng Crime Intelligence Unit, Provincial Investigative Unit, Highway Patrol, and the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC).
Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi says the operation followed intelligence indicating the involvement of two police officers in orchestrating these crimes.
"The team operationalised information which revealed the involvement of the two police officers, who were then summoned to the police station and interviewed.”
Information from the interview led the police to two more civilian suspects who were found in possession of three firearms and signal jamming devices.
“All four suspects, including the police officers, were arrested and were further linked to two Kempton Park cases of truck hijacking and carjacking," said Nevhuhulwi.
Gauteng’s Provincial Commissioner, Tommy Mthombeni, condemned the involvement of police officers in such criminal activities.
“It is disheartening to see those who are expected to enforce and uphold the law being the ones who work together with criminals to terrorize our communities.”
“This arrest should send a strong message to those few rotten potatoes within the Service that the arm of the law is too long and we will surely catch up with them,” said Mthombeni.
Investigations into the case are ongoing.
