3 arrested for illegal gold refinery in Ekurhuleni

Three men between the ages of 21 and 46 will remain behind bars following their arrest for operating an illegal gold processing refinery.

Law enforcement in Gauteng shut down the operation in Vlaakfontein, Ekurhuleni, on Friday.
At least 1500kg of gold bearing material worth R500 000 was confiscated, as well as a man-made penduka and electronic gadgets.
The unsuspecting Khasilasi Moyana, Kgarametsa Leuta, and Tema Ntikane were caught red-handed.
Provincial Hawks spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mulamu said the trio appeared before the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
“The investigation team kept surveillance at a positively identified premises which resulted to the search warrants issued.
“Police executed a search warrant and pounced on suspects allegedly operating illicit gold refinery and apprehended them immediately,” Mulamu added.
The case is postponed to 20 April for formal bail application.
