6-year-old pupil dies in 'freak accident' on school bus in Carletonville

Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson, Steve Mabona, says a 6-year-old grade-R pupil from Letsatsing Primary Mine School in Carletonville died after a 'freak accident' on Friday.

Mabona says that according to information, the pupil sustained serious injuries while boarding a scholar transport bus.
"The child was rushed to Carletonville Hospital for medical attention," says Mabona.
"Regrettably, the learner passed away later that afternoon due to serious injuries. The circumstances surrounding this accident are investigated by the law enforcement agencies."
The Gauteng MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane, has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, school community, and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and assure them of our full support during this difficult time,” said MEC Chiloane.
