The 53-year-old Babita Deokaran was killed by unknown
suspects in the south of Johannesburg soon after she dropped off her child at school on Monday.

Deokaran, a senior official in the Gauteng Department of Health, was killed in a suspected hit.
She succumbed to her gunshot wounds in hospital.
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has since confirmed that Deokaran was one of its witnesses in the multi-million rand protective personal equipment tender fraud investigation.
Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili says the suspects were arrested late on Thursday evening at various hideouts.
“A collaboration of crime intelligence units received information and conducted a takedown operation at the suspects’ hideouts in Johannesburg. During the arrests, the police recovered two firearms and two vehicles.”
