Accused number 3, 5 'main people' in Senzo Meyiwa murder, court hears

The fourth witness in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has told the High Court in Pretoria that he believes accused number three and five should be the focus of the prosecution.

Senzo Meyiwa

Accused number three is Mthobisi Mncube, while accused number five is Sfisokuhle Ntuli.

Lambertus Steyn, who has 41 years of experience in the South African Police Services’ Cold Case Unit, was roped into the case to analyse the cell phone data of the people present when Meyiwa was shot and killed in October 2014.

“I could just determine that the suspects in front of the court know each other,” Steyn told the court on Friday.

“They did talk to each other. If you look at suspects number five and three, they did speak to each other. And in my opinion, they are the main people.”

It also emerged that Ntuli, who frequently spoke to accused number three, used six phone numbers.

Steyn told the court that this was determined by people who knew him and had saved his number on their phones..

“The number used by accused three Mncube to Ntuli (accused number five), is the same number that he confirmed to police on the day that he was arrested."

On Thursday explosive evidence emerged in court that Ntuli had called Meyiwa’s then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo twice in 2014.

Ntuli called Khumalo in August and October, just over a week before Meyiwa was killed.
