ACSA puts Chief Information Officer on precautionary suspension
Updated | By Mapaballo Borotho
Airports Company South Africa confirmed on Friday that it had placed its Chief Information Officer, Mthokozisi Mncwabe, on precautionary suspension.

The move follows allegations of wrongdoing related to the biometric and digital identity technology project.
In 2022, ACSA awarded a contract worth R115 million to French multinational technology company IDEMIA, with a requirement that at least 30% of the value be subcontracted to a South African, Black-owned enterprise.
IDEMIA subsequently teamed up with local company InfoVerge.
However, a disagreement between IDEMIA and InfoVerge led to the former taking legal action to overturn the contract awarded to IDEMIA.
ACSA's spokesperson Ernest Mulibana said Mncwabe's precautionary suspension allows the company to investigate allegations of prima facie evidence related to the project.
"We have since undertaken a preliminary investigation and have now found that there is prima facie evidence of wrongdoing in relation to the biometric and digital identity technology project.
"It is on this basis that the Chief Information Officer has been placed on a precautionary suspension. The precautionary suspension is to allow ACSA to conduct further investigation and report back to the public on our findings.”
