Protesters initially target the administration block of the Rehlahlilwe Primary School.

"It is alleged that a group of community members went on rampage and torched this building before running away," police said in a statement.

This was then followed by the torching of the administration block of the Leriane Secondary School on Saturday night, prompting the deployment of additional officers.

"The Provincial Commissioner Lt. General Nneke Ledwaba has made it clear that the suspects involved in this spate of violent activity which is characterized by the destruction of property, will be hunted down and brought to book."

Five suspects are already in custody and are expected to appear in court this week on charges of malicious damage to property, assault, and arson.

A manhunt has also been launched for "more suspects who also include ringleaders".
