Africa4Palestine celebrates as Mogoeng is ordered to issue ‘unconditional apology’ over Israel comments
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The Judicial Conduct Committee has instructed former Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng to issue an unconditional apology for his comments regarding the Israel, Palestine conflict.

The committee found that he was in breach of the Judicial Code of Conduct.
The committee investigated Mogoeng after complaints by Africa4Palestine, SABDS Coalition and the Women’s Cultural Group.
Mogoeng made the remarks during an online seminar hosted by the Jerusalem Post in June, saying that he was under an obligation as a Christian to love Israel and pray for peace in Jerusalem.
The committee says through his comments, he involved himself in a political controversy.
The committee says a copy of the apology must be released to the Office of the Chief Justice and the media within 10 days.
Mogoeng retired in October last year.
Africa4Palestine has welcomed the finding as a success.
“We are also affirmed by the checks and balances keeping South Africa’s Judiciary fair and impartial. This groundbreaking and historic outcome by South Africa’s Judicial Conduct Committee has shown in practical terms that judges must be accountable for their behaviour and no one is above reproach.
We maintain that for anyone to condone Israel’s Apartheid regime is morally repugnant,” says the organisation in a statement.
