AfriForum has declared a dispute with government over what it claims to be the wasting of taxpayers' money.
The organisation held a media briefing on Tuesday, calling on government to have sufficient tax reforms to stop the inevitable uprising.
AfriForum’s Ernst Roets says a general tax revolt will be unavoidable if the continuous looting of the fiscus and the “steamrolling” of destructive policy ideas do not stop.
Some of the demands in the manifesto include an end to plans for the expropriation of property without compensation, and for government to stop the continued funding of failed state enterprises.
"What we have seen in the last few months and the last few years in this country is increased voices coming from different spheres of the society calling for some form of tax protest, to say we cannot simply continue with the way things are going in.
“We cannot sit idle and keep on paying taxes while we know that a lot of that money will be stolen by corrupt government officials, that those government officials will not be prosecuted, and if the money is not stolen it goes to funding of destructive economic policies."
"The appropriate way to prevent this is to have reforms, we are concerned that South Africa is on the road to some form of tax revolt or tax uprising. Our aim is not to encourage the uprising but try to prevent the uprising. We believe it is inevitable."
