Agricultural unions sign transformation agreement

Unions forming part of the Agri Sector Unity Forum says it will work together to develop a national development strategy for the agricultural sector.

AFASA, NAFU SA, Agri SA and TAU SA all signed the commitment in Centurion on Monday, where they were joined by Deputy President David Mabuza.
The intent comes amid a debate on land reform and expropriation without compensation.
NAFU President Motsepe Matlala says now is the time that the sector stand together.
"I'm arguing here today that the four presidents of our farmers in South Africa have taken a stand that we can no longer be divied by the dynamics and politics of our coutnry. we can no longer point each other with fingers but we can only be part of the solution that will advance our country to a certain level in order to compete with the international community in the agricultural world.”
A summit will also be held in November where the unions will come up with a national development strategy.
"We want to build trust within our sector and come up with a national strategy that will address a number of concerns that we all agreed on," says the forum’s chairperson Japie Grobler.

Deputy President David Mabuza also commended the forum for the steps its taking to transform the sector.
