Alex fire destroys several homes, one injured
Johannesburg emergency services say at least one person has been injured in a house fire in Alexandra, in the north of the city.
The fire broke out on Sunday night at 16th Avenue, destroying several houses.
The cause of the blaze is being investigated.
Joburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said seven other people suffered smoke inhalation.
"The patient was treated on scene and was later transported to the hospital for further medical care. At this stage, the cause of the fire is still a subject of investigation.
"We still continue to plead with our residents to ensure that all the heating devices are used safely and are not left unattended, so that we can prevent fire incidents which might occur during this winter season."
In Kwa Thema, on the East Rand, six members of a family lost their lives when a shack caught fire in the Marikana informal settlement on Monday morning.
