The man accused of raping and killing 6-year-old Amantle Samane abandoned his bid for bail in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

The accused was arrested in October following the discovery of Samane’s lifeless body in his rented room in Orlando, south of Johannesburg.
Under the Criminal Procedures Act, the 24-year-old may not be named until he has pleaded in court.
The Mozambican national faces schedule six charges of kidnapping, rape, murder, and contravention of the Immigration Act.

State prosecutor Thapelo Mohapi informed the court that investigations into the murder were complete.
However, a decision from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) was still outstanding.
This was after the accused, through his lawyer Ndivhuho Masindi, informed the court that he would no longer proceed with his bail application.
“It’s my instruction that today we will no longer proceed with the formal bail application, and we are abandoning bail at this state.”
The case has been postponed until January 27 for instruction from the DPP.
During his last appearance before the Protea Magistrate’s Court, the accused claimed he had been assaulted at the Johannesburg Correctional Centre.
The matter was postponed for the accused to receive medical attention for injuries on his chest, arms, and legs.
