Police are hunting a Mozambican national who fled from the community after the six-year-old was allegedly raped and strangled in his rented shack just meters away from Samane’s Orlando East home in Soweto.

Ntobizodwa Samane searched all the places where she thought her little girl could’ve been when she noticed she was playing in the streets near their home at around 4 pm on Monday.

“I went to the kids I last saw her playing with, and they told me they don’t know where she is. I went knocking at every home where I know there was a young child, and I still didn’t find her. I then decided to check where her father lives, thinking that maybe she went to him, just three streets away from here. Still, she was not there.

“I went to my aunt’s house thinking maybe she was there. Then two kids came and told me they last saw her sitting at the corner…I went back home to get a jersey, but before I even entered the house, a teenage boy approached me and told me they had found Amantle.”

She said the boy told her that the child was last seen with the suspect, Pethe Sara Simiao, who led them to the backroom he was renting.

But nothing could’ve prepared Samane for what she saw next.

“When we arrived, I saw my child lying there covered with a blanket. I pulled back the blanket and found that this guy had pulled her pants down on one side. She was wearing shorts.

“I fixed her up and picked her up to see if she was still alive. I asked them to pour water on her, but she didn’t respond. I checked her neck, and it looked like this guy strangled her when he did what he did to her.”

Samane said her relatives called the police and paramedics, who then took over.

The devastated mother said they made the grim discovery just after 6 pm, an hour past little Amantle’s bathtime.

“I looked for my child, only to find that that devil took my child.”

The family said they were battling to come to terms with how Amantle, a bubbly child who loved to sing and dance, was brutally taken away from them.

Police earlier confirmed that a warrant of arrest was issued for Simiao, who was also found to have been living in South Africa illegally.
