ANC Ekurhuleni councillor arrested on suspicion of looting
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The African National Congress (ANC) in Ekurhuleni has confirmed that one of its members have been arrested on charges of theft and public violence.

It is understood that the councilor was involved in the recent spate of looting in the province.
Two weeks ago, violence and the widespread looting of various shopping malls rocked parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
Subsequently, police and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) have embarked on a series of raids.
They raid suspected houses, shacks and other premises in search of looted food, household equipment and goods.
ANC regional secretary Thembinkosi Nciza said the party will institute disciplinary action.
“The ANC Ekurhuleni region wishes to strongly condemn any acts of criminality attributable to any leaders and public representatives of the ANC. The ANC calls on law enforcement agencies to carry out their work in relation to this matter with greatest urgency.
“Given the fact that the Ward Councilor has been formerly charged, ANC corrective measures will be implemented as per the ANC Constitution and guidelines on disciplinary dictates.
The ANC will immediately develop a contingency leadership and governance plan for the community of Ward 71 whilst the legal matters relating to the Ward Councilor are running their due natural course.”
