Ramaphosa addressed party supporters outside struggle veteran Winnie Madikizela Mandela's home on Monday.

Hundreds of ANC supporters gathered at the struggle icon’s home to celebrate what would have been her 86th birthday.

"You're going to your BGMs to prepare for the national conference. Nominate the leaders that will take the ANC forward,” Ramaphosa said.

"As we do that we must get rid of corruption so that the ANC may become more attractive to the other people in our country."

Ramaphosa also told party members that the outcomes of the BGMs should also do away with factionalism and divisions within the party.

"What we must also do is get rid of the divisions amongst us. Get rid of divisions and factionalism amongst us because the ANC is the only faction that we must belong to."

The ANC in Gauteng has endorsed its favoured candidates, which include Ramaphosa, the party's current treasurer Paul Mashatile and NEC member Nomvula Mokonyane.

Gauteng chairperson Panyaza Lesufi says the province will not settle for anything less than three of its preferred candidates.

"We have said that we are engaging other provinces, so we're open to be persuaded. But the President, Ramaphosa and Deputy President Paul Mashatile and the DSG Nomvula Mokonyane.

"We really believe that we have put credible comrades that will represent the aspirations of the ANC. We don't want other positions because we need to share with the other provinces, we need to share with young people and women. This is our position in Gauteng."
