ANC in Tshwane wants inquiry into GladAfrica

The African National Congress (ANC) in Tshwane has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to establish a commission of inquiry in the controversial GladAfrica contract.

On Monday, Tshwane mayor Stevens Mokgalapa announced that the city would be parting ways with GladAfrica in June.
The Auditor-General (AG) found that the tender of GladAfrica to be illegal and said it should be set aside.

The original value of the tender is R12 billion and over 300 million has already been paid to the consultancy firm.
The multi-billion tender didn't comply with supply chain management regulations.
ANC in Tshwane 's Bafuze Yabo said Mokgalapa should have terminated the contract with immediate effect, while the mayor’s office wants the company to first complete its outstanding work.
"The president must sign a Special Investigating Unit declaration to look into the financial matter as it relates to GladAfrica in Tshwane, and secondly to have a commission of inquiry that will be public in order to ascertain the money flows as it relates to this contract. We suspect that there is some underhanded business that may be down in dark corners and we want that to be brought to life.
"We feel that Tshwane can be assisted with an inquiry," Yabo said.
The ANC also wants the city manager Moeketsi Mosola, who has been implicated in the awarding of the tender, to be axed.
Yabo said the mayor should have moved to suspend Mosola.
"We would like to see the city manager answer for his role in the scandal. We want to challenge Mokgalapa to table a report for the suspension of the city manager on his role in the GladAfrica scandal in this council today. We will gladly support such a report as the ANC."
Yabo warned that keeping Masola in his role would prove that the DA-led administration lacks accountability.
"It will be clear that the people of this municipality have been sacrificed on the altar of political expediency and power mongering."
In addition, the ANC wants the Hawks to investigate the money already paid to GladAfrica.
