ANCYL Gauteng defends Lesufi's decision to exclude DA from govt

The ANC Youth League in Gauteng has come out in support voiced its support for Premier Panyaza Lesufi's decision to form a provincial government DA.

Lesufi unveiled his provincial cabinet earlier this week.


It consists of seven returning ANC members and one new member each from coalition partners: the Inkatha Freedom Party, Patriotic Alliance, and RISE Mzansi.


The DA declined the opportunity to form a coalition with the ANC at the last minute, citing a failure to agree on power-sharing terms.


Ntsako Mogobe, Gauteng ANCYL convener, emphasised that Lesufi's choice underscores the provincial leadership's dedication to the consider the people's interests.


"The youth league believes this firm approach is essential for fostering trust and confidence amongst our members and the broader community.


"We continue to work towards more on an inclusive and equitable society, we stand in solidarity with the provincial executive committee reinforcing our collective determination to pursue policies and actions that truly reflects the will and needs of people."


Mogobe also called on Lesufi to safeguard the continuity of the Nasi iSpani programme.


This initiative, conceived by Lesufi during the 6th administration, led to the establishment of crime prevention wardens, known as AmaPanyaza.


The programme faced significant criticism, with some alleging it was merely an election tactic to secure ANC votes.


Recently, Lesufi relocated the Department of Community Safety to his office as part of the crime-fighting strategy. 


"The Youth League is barricading to play a crucial role of oversight in guarding against all corruption across all government department. We understand the importance of  safeguarding the significance gains made under the 6th administration as led by the ANC, such as Nasi iSpani initiative. 


"These are initiatives that we must and be able to protect and we must crush everyone who seeks to reverse these particular gains."
