Andy Kawa: Trial against rape accused postponed
The trial against the man accused of kidnapping and raping Gauteng woman Andy Kawa has been postponed.
During Moses Gqesha's appearance in the Gqeberha High Court on Thursday, it came to light that he was not feeling well.
Judge Phillip Zilwa then granted a postponement at the request of Gqesha's legal representative, Advocate Xolile Bodlo.
The postponement came while Andy Kawa was under cross-examination by Bodlo.
Kawa took the stand in the criminal case on Tuesday, more than 14 years after she was raped along Kings Beach on 9 December 2010.
Gqesha pleaded not guilty to raping Kawa as well as charges of kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
It is alleged that he raped Kawa repeatedly during her sixteen hours of captivity.
Before the trial, Gqesha pleaded guilty to one count of theft.
In this case, he stole a lawnmower in Newton Park in 2020.
This arrest caused his DNA sample to be taken as part of the investigation.
The DNA sample later turned up positive with Kawa's rape kit.
The trial continues on Monday.
