Angry Kwa-Thema residents torch two municipal vehicles

The Ekurhuleni metro police were monitoring a service delivery protest in KwaThema on Tuesday as angry residents took to the streets over prolonged power outages.

Residents say they have not had electricity for almost three weeks.
The angry demonstrators also torched two municipal vehicles.
Metro police spokesperson Ignatius Maphike says the local municipal offices were also damaged, including the windows of the local fire station.
"Residents of KwaThema Ext 2, 3 Barcelona and Marikana area have taken to the streets barricading all roads with rocks and burning tyres, protestors also proceeded to the KwaThema Customer Care Centre and set alight two council bakkies in the parking lot.
"The entrance of the centre's glass doors were also broken, as well as windows in the guardhouse at the Kwa Thema Fire station. It is alleged that the demonstration is about the lack of electricity for about three weeks.
"Police are monitoring the situation and it remains volatile," said Maphike
