Anika Smit's alleged murderer in court
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
The formal bail application for the 24-year-old man accused of murdering Anika Smit is set to begin in the Pretoria North Magistrate's Court this morning.

André van Wyk is accused of brutally raping and killing the teenager in 2010.
Van Wyk was deemed mentally fit to stand trial in December 2016.
Van Wyk was initially sent to Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital for 30 days, but had to stay for another 20 days for further observation.
The court heard he had no mental disorders or defects at the time of the alleged offense - and can therefore contribute meaningfully to his own defence.
Smit, who was 17, was at her Theresa Park home due to illness on the morning of her murder.
The teenager was raped, her throat was slit and her hands cut off.
