A 65-seater bus collided with the trailer of an articulated truck on Wednesday morning at Blackreef Road and Dekema Road near Wadeville in Germiston.

According to the Ekurhuleni metro police, the bus transported students from Sekgotlong Primary School in Katlehong from Ramaphosa, Boksburg.

No fatalities or critical injuries were reported at the scene.

“Only nineteen children sustained minor injuries and were treated by paramedics on site before being taken to medical facilities,” said Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spokesperson William Ntladi.

The drivers of both vehicles escaped without injuries.

The cause of the crash remains unknown.

“However, it is alleged that the truck, which was ahead of the bus, suddenly applied its brakes, causing the bus to crash into the trailer,” Ntladi added.

Metro police officials are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the crash.

In the past two days, 22 lives have been lost in three separate accidents across two Gauteng municipalities, including four schoolchildren tragically killed while on their way to school.
