Arthur Fraser allegations ‘have no basis’, says Ramaphosa

President Cyril Ramaphosa has hit back at former spy boss Arthur Fraser, saying there is no factual basis to the allegations of criminal conduct made against him.

Ramaphosa responded to Fraser in a statement released by the Presidency on Thursday.
Fraser, who is a former head of state security, laid a criminal complaint against Ramaphosa on Wednesday, accusing the president of kidnapping and bribing robbers who stole more than $4 million from one of his properties in Limpopo.
According to Fraser, burglars broke into the farm with the help of a domestic worker in February 2020.
They stole cash belonging to Ramaphosa.
Fraser has accused the president of organising the "kidnapping of suspects, their interrogation on his property, and bribery".
Ramaphosa’s spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says a robbery did take place at the president’s farm in Limpopo in 2020, as alleged by Fraser.
Proceeds from the sale of game were stolen during the robbery.
“The president was attending an African Union Summit in Addis Ababa at the time the incident occurred,” says Magwenya.
“On being advised of the robbery, President Ramaphosa reported the incident to the head of the Presidential Protection Unit of the South African Police Service for investigation. President Ramaphosa stands ready to cooperate with any law enforcement investigation of these matters.”
