Baby kidnappings on the rise at Joburg clinics
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The Gauteng Department of Health has expressed concern following the abduction of two babies at two separate clinics in Johannesburg.

The first baby was reported stolen at Winnie Mandela clinic in Tembisa on Monday.
The mother had brought her three-day-old for a postnatal check-up, when she left the child with an unknown woman who offered to assist.
When the mother returned from the bathroom the woman had fled with the baby.
The second baby was stolen at Alexandra clinic on 12 May, under similar circumstances.
"The babies were safely recovered due to the maximum security and CCTV surveillance and the collaboration between our staff and law enforcement authorities." said Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko.
One suspect has since been arrested in the Alex clinic incident.
“We therefore urge all parents and guardians to never leave their children unattended; do not entrust your baby to a stranger, no matter how friendly or helpful they may seem," Nkomo-Ralehoko added.
