Benoni bunnies to be euthanised 'humanely'
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile
About 2000 bunnies will be euthanised in the coming weeks.

The Johannesburg City Parks says the fury animals from the Benoni Bunny Park will be euthanised in the most humane manner.
The bunnies will be fed to carnivores at the Johannesburg Zoo.
The City of Ekurhuleni is donating the rabbits due to over population at the park and a concern about the spread of diseases among the animals.
City Parks spokesperson Jenny Moodley says the decision taken was the best option.
"We want to assure residents that the euthanising of the animals is being overseen and is closely monitored by the chief vet. We are committed to ensuring that the euthanising of the rabbits is carried out in the most humane manner possible," Moodley says.
She says the first 50 rabbits have already been donated to the zoo.
"The Joburg Zoo indicated that it was purchasing rabbits to feed its carnivores and was therefore in a position to accept 50 rabbits a week as a food source to assist the Benoni Bunny Park," Moodley says.
Jacaranda FM News visited the park on Tuesday.
The facility has been closed until further notice due to maintenance.
