Beyond The Spotlight: Stop the clock!
Updated | By Gerda de Sousa
South Africans got to know him as the action man who jumped from helicopters, ran up and over mountains, crawled into dark places and dived into rivers - in search of treasures for someone else.

This was the hit TV show "Skattejag" back in 1985, where Scot Scott had 45 minutes to find the prize for a clever couple, directing him from within the studio.
From hero - he went on to become one of the most hated men on our TV screens - as Jack Steyn in "Agter Elke Man".
For two years, Scott tormented the South African public every week, as a dangerous, abusive and aggressive good-for-nothing man who didn't think twice about beating his sister.

Many still name him as one of the top vintage villians of early local TV.
Scott then took a step in a beautiful direction - rubbing shoulders with the prettiest in the land, when he presented the Miss South Africa pageant. He also stepped into the role as an MNet continuity presenter back in the day.
Fast forward about 15 years - and today Scott is a sugarcane farmer in KwaZulu-Natal.
Where he once woke up in the hustle and bustle of Joburg life, he now drinks his first cup of coffee at sunrise, overlooking the sea. Gone are the days where he worried about his best angle for a TV shot - these days his concern is the smooth running of his farm, the weather patterns and crop production.
But he admits - nothing will ever come close to the thrill of a live TV production.
