BLF wants millions in compensation for listeriosis victims
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Black First Land First (BLF) President Andile Mngixitama says compensation should be paid to the families of those who lost loved ones due to the outbreak of listeriosis.

Mngixitama says the proposed compensation of R200 000 for the Life Esidimeni families is an insult to those affected by the tragedy.
He believes families affected by the listeriosis outbreak should be paid R5 million per household.

"At least you can take care of the children, take care of yourself as a start," says Mngixitama.
He says the state cannot allow white monopoly capital to "murder our people."
"The final word is with the families," says Mngixitama. However, the movement will call for the R5 million in compensation.
He believes the evidence of wrongdoing is clear and says even the Minister of Health has confirmed the link between the 180 people who passed away to listeriosis of the responsible companies.

On Sunday Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi briefed the media on the outbreak of listeriosis.
Motsoaledi has implicated an Enterprise Foods factory in Polokwane, another in Germiston and a Rainbow Chicken facility in Sasolburg in the Free State amid the outbreak of the deadly air-borne disease.
