Bobani loses bid to be reinstated as Nelson Mandela Bay mayor

The Port Elizabeth High Court has dismissed Mongameli Bobani's application to be reinstated as the executive mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay.

The high court ruled on Thursday that the matter was not urgent.
The UDM's Bobani filed an urgent court application to be reinstated after he was removed from office in a vote of no-confidence during a dramatic council meeting earlier this month.
The overwhelming majority of councillors from the Democratic Alliance (DA), African National Congress (ANC) and Congress of the People (Cope) voted in favour of the motion, while the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) abstained.
After the votes were cast, Bobani gathered his files and documents and left the chamber while council business continued.
Bobani's legal representative Danie Gouws explains that the matter will be heard in another court.
