Boksburg tanker blast death toll climb to 27
The death toll following the horrific Boksburg gas explosion on Christmas Eve has increased to 27.
“We can confirm that as of today 29 December 2022 that we do have now 27 people that have since passed on as a result of having sustained serious injuries from the Boksburg explosion. Police have confirmed and verified the death figures,” said Gauteng health spokesperson Motalatale Modiba.
The latest death is a healthcare worker employed at Tambo Memorial Hospital.
To date, 10 healthcare workers have passed on.
“Three are still alive and are in a critical stage in hospital.”
While conveying his condolences, Modiba added that this has been a tough week for the healthcare sector.
“It has been a very difficult week the impact of the disaster has been most devastating to the families including those who are at the front line of providing healthcare services.”
