Police in the North West are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of a 10-month-old baby girl.

The infant was discovered with head injuries and bruises on her body at Botsalano section last week Friday.
Provincial police spokesperson Adéle Myburgh said a post-mortem is yet to be conducted to determine the cause of death.
"Initial reports suggest that the baby’s mother left her in the care of a friend on Thursday, 18 January 2024.
"Later, the neighbour's 11-year-old boy went to her house and indicated that the baby’s grandmother sent him to fetch the baby. She then handed the baby over to the 11-year-old boy.
“Sadly, the baby was found dead by a friend in her yard the next morning (Friday).
"Emergency and Medical Rescue Services declared the baby dead on the scene. The 11-year-old boy, who is currently kept under the supervision of his parents, will be evaluated by a social worker. He will be dealt with in accordance with the Child Justice Act,” she added.
