The 50-year-old suspect was the last person seen with Ditire in May and had initially reported her missing.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Adéle Myburgh, said the man was already in custody for immigration-related offences when investigations linked him to Ditire’s murder.

“According to information received, Ditire (52) was last seen by her boyfriend, whom she visited on Thursday midday, 29 May 2025, near the R506 road between Amalia and Christiana, near Kgwejana Farm, while on her way to a local store.

" Her boyfriend, who was working at the farm, reported her missing on Saturday, 7 June 2025.

"He was later arrested during police investigations and charged with contravention of section 49 of the Immigration Act, 2002 and was remanded in custody,” Myburgh said.

She added that the suspect is expected to appear before the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 25 August 2025, on a charge of murder.

Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, described the case as a stark reminder of gender-based violence.

“The arrest of the suspect and the discovery of the mortal remains of the deceased, while commended and welcomed, is yet another painful reminder of the brutality and barbaric violence that defenceless women are subjected to by men who are supposed to be their protectors.

"It is hoped that this arrest will bring some comfort and closure to the family who for a long time didn't know what could have happened to their loved one,” Asaneng said.
